Ingredients
Because filet mignon is such a delicious cut of meat, you don’t need hardly anything for ingredients. If you’d like suggestions on organic meat delivery check out my review on the top companies.
Filet Mignon – Naturally, the star of this show is going to be the steak! I love this cut of beef, plus it’s elegant when you are cooking for guests.
Olive Oil – You’ll need a little bit of olive oil to help brown the outside of the steak. You only need 1 teaspoon, so it’s not very much.
Salt & Pepper – The only seasonings I use are kosher salt and black pepper.
Step by Step Instructions
Step One: Pat the steak dry with a paper towel. It is best to let it come up to room temperature before cooking. If you are cooking a cold steak you may need to add a minute or two to the cooking time.
Step Two: Drizzle and rub olive oil on both sides. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
Step Three: Place in the air fryer basket and cook at 400 degrees for 10 minutes, flipping the air fried filet mignon halfway through. Let it rest for a few minutes for the most juicy steak. If you cut it too soon the juice will run out.
Top Tip💡
You can make multiple air fryer filet mignon steaks at once as long as they can fit in the basket in a single layer with touching.
Variations
Garlic Butter: Melt butter and add in minced garlic (or garlic powder) and some chopped parsley. Use a pastry brush to add it to the steak when you flip it for extra flavor. Then add some more after cooking. Or just place a slice of flavored compound butter on the finished steak. You can also make the homemade garlic butter ahead of time and then chill it and top the filet with a slice.
Toppings: My husband loves blue cheese crumbles paired with this perfect air fryer steak recipe.
Common Questions
How Long Does it Take to Cook a Filet Mignon in an Air Fryer?
About 10 minutes. The circulating hot air cooks food quickly. If you like your steak cooked rare you want to check it at 8 minutes. It is very easy to cook the perfect filet mignon when you use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature.
Steak Internal Temperatures
When cooking filet mignon it is helpful to have an instant-read thermometer. Cook times vary but temperature never lies.
Rare | 125 degrees for a rare filet mignon. The center of the steak will be cool and will be red.
Medium Rare | 135 degrees. Visually the center is going to be red and be slightly warm.
Medium | 145 degrees for a medium filet mignon. The center is going to be reddish-pink, and it will be warm.
Medium Well | 150 degrees. The center is going to be pink, without any red for a medium well filet mignon.
Well Done | 160 degrees. There is going to be very little or no pink in the center.
For more info see this guide on meat temperatures.
Do I Cook Steak When It’s Cold?
For best results, sit the steak on the counter and let it rest for 30 minutes to 1 hour. This will let it cook properly and will give you much better results. If you are in a hurry, it’s okay to skip this step, but if you have the time, it’s worth it. To make a frozen filet mignon in an air fryer you will definitely have to increase the cooking time and check it often. My guess is it will take about 15 minutes for medium-rare but I have not had the chance to test this yet.
Can I Cook Multiple Steaks At Once?
Yes, depending on the size of your air fryer, you can cook more filets. The key is making sure that you have plenty of space between the steaks. If the steaks are too close together, then the air can’t circulate properly.
What To Serve With Steak
This air fryer filet mignon is excellent on its own, but we also like to include some side dishes too.
