Are you looking for new ideas for cooking flounder fillets? This Stuffed Flounder Recipe is perfect for a special occasion or a delicious meal for the whole family to enjoy. I love the delicate flavor!
Recipes like this make cooking in a home kitchen so much fun. This might be one of my favorite dishes because it’s a great way to cook fish fillets without a lot of hard steps and difficult ingredients.
Don’t forget to add fun flavors to the top of the fish, like fresh lemon juice or fresh flakes of parsley or cilantro. That’s the only change that I make to this tender flounder recipe!

Ingredients
- Flounder – This is such a great white fish to cook for delicious flavor.
- Spinach – Cooked spinach is what I use to stuff flounder.
- Cream cheese – This adds richness to the flounder.
- Feta cheese – This adds a salty flavoring.
- Salt – Just a pinch.
- Paprika – For flavor and color.
- Pepper – For flavor. Add as much or as little as you like.
See recipe card for quantities.
How to Make Stuffed Flounder
Step One: Mix the spinach, cream cheese, ½ teaspoon of salt, and the feta cheese in a bowl. Pat the flounder with a clean paper towel and place on a cutting board.
Step Two: Lay the fillet float on the board. Roll the flounder around the filling, then sprinkle with the rest of the salt, paprika, and pepper. You may need to hold it closed with toothpicks.
Step Three: Preheat an oven-safe skillet to medium heat and add olive oil. Put the stuffed fish onto the skillet.
Step Four: Put the pan into the oven and cook until the internal temperature is 140-145 degrees and the fish flakes with a fork.
Step Five: Serve and enjoy!
Top Tip💡
To find the best quality fish, head to a seafood store or talk to your local grocery store about options. This is a forgiving recipe though so thawing frozen flounder is fine.
Substitutions
- Seasonings – If you want to add other flavors, you can add garlic powder, Old Bay seasoning, cayenne pepper, or any other good substitutes.
Variations
- Add butter – A few tablespoons butter on top of the fish can help the fresh herbs stay on top.
- Parmesan cheese – Don’t forget that you can sprinkle some of this on top as well.
- Vary the stuffing mixture – You can also add some bread crumbs and even some crabmeat stuffing inside the fish recipe. Crab stuffing is a fun way to add more flavor, and you just have to add a little bit of lump crab meat.
See this All Purpose Seasoning for a fun option to use on the top of the fish recipe.
Equipment
You’ll need to have a large skillet, cooking spray, fillet knife, and cutting board to make this yummy dish.
A large mixing bowl is also helpful for mixing the stuffing ingredients. I also use a rubber spatula for stirring the ingredients.
Storage
You can store leftovers from healthy recipes like this by letting the fish cool and then storing the leftovers in an airtight container. Keep them in the fridge.
To reheat, you can add to a small pan and cook on the stovetop. Be sure to heat all the way through. For the best results, eat the next day.
Common Questions
Since the thickness of the fillets can vary, it’s important to check the internal temperature of the flounder. For the best results, use a meat thermometer and insert it into the thickest part of the fish. As long as it reads 145 degrees, the fish should be safe to eat.
You can pair it with a side of crab cakes and green beans, or keep it light and simple with a salad. I also like to serve with a side of cooked Air Fryer Spaghetti Squash, with a squeeze of lemon on top.
This means that the fish was overcooked. Be sure to use the meat thermometer so that you can keep a close eye on the cooking temperatures. Fish can overcook quickly, so this is really the only way to make sure that you aren’t cooking the fish for too long or for too short of time.
