Cooking broccoli this way has been a game changer. Even if you don’t follow the exact recipe, I promise you’ll still love the outcome. It makes the crispiest broccoli without burning it, and I love that I’m using bacon grease as a flavor enhancer.

Ingredients
- Broccoli florets – Fresh broccoli is a must for this recipe to crisp up in the oven.
- Bacon grease – You can also use any type of oil for high-heat cooking.

How to Make this Broiled Broccoli Recipe
Step One: Preheat the broiler to low and add foil to a baking pan. Add bacon grease to the pan, and then add the damp, cleaned broccoli.
Step Two: Broil for 10 minutes, stirring every couple of minutes.Season and serve.
Top Tip💡
Try and keep the florets similar in size. If you have a lot of smaller florets, those will cook faster, causing a discrepancy in the texture and outcome. Keep a close eye on it while cooking this easy roasted broccoli.
Substitutions
- Oils – While I’m a fan of the simple cooking process, as listed on the printable recipe card, that doesn’t mean that you can’t change the process. Instead of using bacon grease, you can use a little olive oil, sesame oil, or any oil that can be used during a high-heat cooking process.
- Veggies – You can follow the same cooking process and cook roasted cauliflower, sweet potatoes, and Brussels spouts as well.
Variations
- Add toppings – Sesame seeds and parmesan cheese are excellent toppings to add to the top of the broccoli. You can also add a little bit or a sprinkle of red pepper flakes.
- Simple ingredients – Adding lemon zest, black pepper, balsamic glaze, sea salt, or even garlic cloves to the charred broccoli can add a burst of extra flavor. Some ingredients can be added before broiling and some need to be added after so they don’t burn.

Storage
If you have leftovers of your new favorite vegetable, let them cool completely and then store them in an airtight container. This is a great way to enjoy this broccoli side dish again!
You can reheat the leftovers in the oven, or pop them in the air fryer or microwave.
Common Questions
I love to use a salad spinner. I just cut up the head of broccoli, add the florets to the spinner with water, and spin. It gets the broccoli clean, removes the excess water, and cleans everything in just a couple of minutes.
Make sure that you add all of the broccoli onto the baking sheet in an even layer. The hot temperature of the oven can only do so much, but overcrowding the veggies on the hot pan or baking sheet will limit the cooking process.
You can. I would again, recommend that you add the broccoli in a single layer in the air fryer basket to get those crispy edges. I also spray some extra virgin olive oil or avocado oil onto the broccoli as well, for some extra cooking power. Cook at 400 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Just keep a close eye on it so that it doesn’t burn.
