Broiled Bacon cooks the perfect bacon every single time. Use this cooking method for less mess and as a simple way to enjoy cooked bacon in less than 10 minutes.
While there are many different ways to cook bacon, this is one of the best ways for easy cleanup. Not a lot of people actually broil bacon, and I think they’re missing out. It not only cooks better bacon, but it does so in the perfect way. The broiling method is the perfect, quick way to obtain crispy slices with minimal effort.
You can use the extra crispy bacon for sandwiches or break it apart into bacon bits and add it to salads. This works great for thick bacon and thin bacon – both!

Ingredients
- Bacon – I like thick-cut bacon better, but you can make this with varied bacon slices. The kind of bacon will change the cook time. Thin bacon may cook much faster.
- Brown sugar sweetener – This is optional, but it’s a fun way to make a salty-sweet flavor.
See recipe card for quantities.
How to Make Broiled Bacon
Step One: Add foil to a large baking sheet and add the strips of bacon. They need to be in a single layer.
Step Two: Preheat the oven broiler to high.
Step Three: Place the pan in the oven and broil for 4 minutes per side. Flip the bacon every 2 minutes. Keep a close eye on it.
Step Four: Remove the broiled bacon strips and place them on a paper towel to soak up any excess grease.
Top Tip💡
Save the bacon grease! Even though this recipe has easy clean up, don’t throw out the grease. You can save the excess bacon grease in a glass jar to use for other recipes. Leftover bacon grease is a great substitute for other oils.
Substitutions
- Turkey bacon – If you want leaner bacon slices with less fat, you can use turkey bacon in place of pork. They’ll still crisp up golden brown, and you’ll have crispy strips of bacon to eat and enjoy.
Variations
- Change the type of bacon – You can use thicker bacon, thinner bacon, flavored or seasoned bacon, or a combination of all of the above. This bacon recipe is versatile and forgiving, so have fun changing it up. Just watch it closely under the broiler.

Equipment
Aluminum foil and a sheet pan are really all that you need to cook this thick-cut bacon recipe. I told you that cooking bacon was simple!
Storage
The best way to store cooked bacon strips is to let them cool to room temperature and then store them in an airtight container. If you’re worried about them sticking together, place parchment paper between the layers.
To reheat, you can warm them back up in the oven, air fryer, or microwave. Be sure to warm them in a single layer and reheat them all the way through.
Common Questions
Honestly, either option is fine and so much less messy than cooking the bacon in the frying pan. The baking time is quick, and you can cook a lot of bacon this way. I love to broil because it gives me that crispy bacon texture.
I do. I like to flip so that I’m sure that the level of crispiness is even on both sides.
Once the bacon is cooked, place the strips of bacon onto a paper towel-lined plate. This is a better way to soak up grease and have the bacon handy and ready to grab and eat.
The sky is the limit. You can use this cooked bacon on salads, in soups, on sandwiches, and more. Once you take the time to cook the bacon, you have options.
You can also prep this bacon and cook it, and then have it stored in the fridge. This is an easy addition to so many meals for flavor, taste, and added protein. I’ve been knowns to add a side of bacon to my dishes – just because I wanted to!
