According to the calendar, spring is still in full bloom, but it’s clear that the folks at Aldi are already gearing up for summer. How else can we explain the May edition of Aldi Finds? The excellent deals on seasonal products that include food, drink and lifestyle items have us ready for the heat, whether manning a fiery grill or cooling down with an icy beverage. Luckily for healthy eaters, many of the convenient items were chosen with us in mind. Here’s what we’re most excited to try this month, from dining on seafood al fresco to brewing some of the coolest iced coffee around.
Fremont Fish Market Salmon Burgers
It’s not always easy to find reasonably priced wild-caught Alaskan salmon. These patties are on sale for $4.99 for a four-pack. That means you can serve your family a meal loaded with omega-3 fatty acids to help reduce chronic inflammation for less than $5. The frozen burgers, available in teriyaki and chipotle flavors, are a tasty stand-in for ground beef. We can’t wait to try them out and pair them with our Easy Pineapple Coleslaw.
Park Street Deli Hummus
When we don’t have time to make our own hummus, we appreciate the ease of Aldi’s version. Starting May 8, the chickpea purée from the Park Street Deli label is just $1.99, even more affordable than blending up a bowl at home. Besides the classic, garlic and red pepper flavors, you’ll also find fun seasonal flavors such as sweet-and-spicy honey-jalapeño and everything seasoned.
Nature’s Nectar Sparkling Drink Mixers
On May 15, it may be time to start planning a party. That’s the day these sparkling juices become available for $3.49 for four 8.45-ounce cans. We’re imagining the watermelon flavor poured into a puckery lemonade, but they’ll be refreshing in any mocktail or cocktail creation you can dream up. Other flavors include pineapple and strawberry.
Specially Selected Dark Chocolate Covered Espresso Beans
Looking for a sweet caffeine jolt with antioxidant properties? A handful of these toasty espresso beans, enrobed in dark chocolate, could be just the ticket. They hit shelves on May 29, just in time to power up for summer. Meant to be eaten judiciously, the 10-ounce, $3.99 container could last you through the season.
Barissimo Brew Over Ice Coffee Cups
Save money and time by making your own iced coffee at home. Also available May 29, these cups of classic black coffee are meant to stand up to dilution from ice. A box includes what you need to make 12 single-serve cups of Arabica coffee and costs just $4.29.
Deutsche Küche German Style Pickles
May 8 through 14 marks Aldi’s German Week, celebrating the brand’s Deutsche heritage. That week, we’ll be picking up lots of Central European delights, from red cabbage with apples to herring filets. But we’re most excited for these brined cucumbers, which pack a ton of flavor in a small bite. The 23.6-ounce jar is just $2.99 and pairs beautifully with our pork schnitzel.
Fremont Fish Market Seafood Boil
Outdoor celebrations are definitely in the cards this month, but grilling isn’t for everyone. Coastal dwellers will appreciate the nostalgia of an old-fashioned seafood boil, while the rest of the country will enjoy an introduction to the tradition via this 2-pound bag of frozen shrimp, mussels, andouille sausage, corn and potatoes. Cajun-style seasoning flavors this $9.99 meal that’s already waiting in Aldi’s freezer section.
Crane Flip Top Cooler
Preparing for a picnic? You’ll need something to keep your drinks, salads and sandwiches cool. These cute coolers are infinitely more stylish than a conventional cooler. We’re especially crushing on the watermelon design, but the fish scales are perfect for a day at the beach. Available May 29, these portable packs are $14.99 and are sure to keep your meals safe even in the dog days.
