One of my favorite date night venues to visit with my husband is Kyma, a Greek restaurant here in Central NJ. They have great fresh food with vibrant flavors. Their Greek tzatziki sauce is so good I could probably eat it with a spoon. My kids love it too, and they fight over it whenever we bring home leftovers. So, I starting making this easy keto tzatziki sauce at home. You can’t go wrong with eating this low-carb, keto, gluten-free, and grain-free dish. Only 1.6 net carbs!
I eat tzatziki sauce year-round, but I especially love it on those hot days when warm food is too heavy. Instead, it’s a refreshing way to cool off.
You can throw this recipe together in minutes, and I’m certain you will love it. Oh, and it tastes way better than the store-bought stuff. So be sure to try this one and print or pin the recipe for later, because I am sure you will want to make it more than once.
Ingredients Needed
This creamy low carb keto tzatziki comes together fast and with very few ingredients.
- Greek Seasoning – For my Greek seasoning, you will just need salt, oregano, garlic powder, dried lemon zest, pepper, and dill. It’s vibrant and delicious! You can also add a store bought Greek or Mediterranean spice blend to taste.
- Greek Yogurt – Use full fat Greek yogurt to reach the ultimate creaminess.
- Cucumber – Nothing beats cool and refreshing shredded cucumber. Plus, you’ll get some vitamin K, potassium, magnesium, and more vitamins and minerals.
- Lemon Juice – Using freshly squeezed lemon juice is best. It’s a great source of vitamin C, potassium, and vitamin B6 too.
- Mayonnaise – Use real mayo that is low carb and not a mayonnaise substitute. It’s creamy and gives the tzatziki an extra rich flavor. It may not be authentic or traditional in tzatziki but it is delicious. Alternatively, you can use a little sour cream.
- Fresh Dill – I love the flavor of fresh dill, and it’s a classic ingredient in traditional tzatziki recipes.
How To Make Keto Tzatziki
Step One: Begin by making the Greek seasoning by combining the salt, pepper, oregano, garlic powder, dried lemon zest, and dill together in a bowl.
Step Two: Mix the yogurt, grated cucumber, lemon juice, Greek seasoning, mayonnaise, and dill together in a bowl. Cover and refrigerate for 1-2 hours to give the flavors time to blend. Serve and enjoy!
Common Questions
What Kind Of Cucumber Do I Need?
When you head to the market, be on the lookout for English cucumbers. They will give the tzatziki the best texture and flavor. Plus, regular cucumbers have thicker skin and lots of seeds. While you can use another variety of cucumbers, English is much easier to work with, and they tend to be naturally sweeter than regular cucumbers.
Do I Need To Drain Cucumbers Before Starting?
While it’s not required, it does help your keto low carb tzatziki sauce last longer. To drain the cucumbers, you will just need to shred them and place them in a colander. Give them a couple of sprinkles of salt and allow them to rest for 30-45 minutes. This will let the water drip out naturally. Then simply follow the recipe as directed.
How Long Does Tzatziki Last?
Typically, leftover tzatziki will last around 2-3 days in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Keep it refrigerated or on ice whenever possible. The cucumbers tend to break down and start losing moisture as the sauce sits, so it may become slightly runny. You can either drain off the liquid or give a quick stir before serving.
What Do You Serve With Keto Tzatziki With?
Oh, the options are pretty much endless! I have so many favorite ways to eat this gluten free creamy cucumber sauce on a keto diet; it’s hard to choose just one. Here are a few keto recipes and ways to incorporate this into your keto meal plan:
- Salads – Use as a salad dressing on my Keto Greek Salad. Its texture is ideal for dressing, and it adds an amazing flavor element that’s irresistible.
- Meat – Whether it’s grilled chicken breasts, salmon, or even steak, you can go wrong with adding it on top. You’ll be amazed by how well it tastes.
- Veggies – Not only does tzatziki go well with fresh vegetables like carrots, broccoli, or cucumbers, it’s also good on roasted veggies too. So, don’t forget to add it to your next batch of roasted vegetables.
- Meatballs – While it technically falls under the meat category, meatballs are excellent with a little bit of this sauce on top. My husband loves it on lamb meatballs.

Keto Tzatziki

- ½ cup shredded cucumber 1 small
- ¼ cup mayo ***
- 1 tablespoon fresh dill
- 2 teaspoon Greek seasoning
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
Instructions
-
Stir all the tzatziki ingredients together.

Notes
Mayo: While not an ingredient traditionally in tzatziki we loved the addition of a little mayo. It balanced the other flavors and boosted the fat content to make this more keto friendly.
Greek Seasoning: You will have some seasoning leftover. It is great as a rub on grilled chicken or used to season olive oil and red wine vinegar for a Greek dressing.
To Store: Place in a sealed jar or container, and the sauce will last 2-3 days. Never leave it out for longer than 2 hours at a time, or it will spoil quickly.
