Amazon Prime Day comes but once (OK, maybe twice) a year, and 2024 is no exception. While the online retailer hasn’t set the date just yet, it’s never too early to prepare yourself to score a slew of savings on small appliances, cooking gadgets, and other kitchen essentials.

Air fryers have become one of the more recently adopted and versatile tools in the countertop appliance world, and for good reason. They offer crispy chicken, evenly heated-through frozen foods, and dozens of other everyday uses for home cooks. We’ve seen deep discounts on air fryers in previous Prime Day roundups, and so check back here for all the details on this year’s lineup.
When is Prime Day?
Amazon Prime Day has historically fallen in July, offering us a mid-year opportunity to snag some less-expensive kitchen appliances. Since the first Prime Day in 2015, the date of the sale has bounced around from as early as July 11 to as late as July 21 — and since 2017, the sales event has lasted two days. Recently, Amazon has also added a second sale they call Prime Big Deal Days (we’ve just been calling it Prime Day 2) in October, as well, giving early holiday shoppers a head start before Black Friday.
Some of last year’s best Prime Day deals included discounts on air fryers from Philips, Instant, Cosori, Breville, Ninja, and Chefman. While we don’t know yet which brands will be featured as part of this year’s Prime Day, we have spotted a few early air fryer sales
What do air fryers do?
Simply put, air fryers are small, countertop convection ovens. (Depending on your home appliances, your regular range may have a full-sized convection oven. More on how to fully utilize that feature here.) But the branding of this constantly-circulating hot air as the “air fry” method of cooking has brought this gadget’s possibilities to a bunch of convenient, smaller-scale uses. From reheating pizza to making perfectly cooked and crispy frozen apps and meals like french fries and fried chicken, it can tackle many of the jobs you might relegate to the microwave and toaster oven, while also letting you bake, broil, and even cook with a rotisserie. Then there’s the fact that the air fryers continuously circulating air makes it ideal for dehydrating. If that’s not multi-use enough for you, brand like Instant Pot even make multicookers that have an air frying function, meaning you can save some counter space with one combo unit.
What kind of air fryer should I buy?
Air fryers come in all different sizes, styles, and price points, from the stripped down time and temperature models, to those with dozens of onboard presets. You’ll want to consider its quart capacity or how much food actually fits inside the basket, the size of its footprint (especially if you have a small kitchen or limited countertop space), and other practical qualities like ease of cleaning and, of course, price. Check out our expert reviews of air fryers here to help you pick.
