Dollar General Has a New Exclusive Line of Dolly Parton Products

I recently watched a clip of Dolly Parton talking about songwriting. She said that she believes some of her lyrics—mainly when a specific phrase is very, very good—come from somewhere other than herself. Her example? The opening lines to the song “9 to 5.”

In case you haven’t already started to sing those first lines in your head, here they are: “Tumble out of bed, and I stumble to the kitchen. Pour myself a cup of ambition and yawn and stretch and try to come alive.”

The “cup of ambition” line struck Dolly as coming from elsewhere, and it is a darn good lyric. The words are also on a coffee mug available only at Dollar General starting mid-July as part of its new Dolly Parton Kitchen and Housewares Collection.

Dolly’s New Housewares Line

Dolly gloriously invading our kitchens is nothing new. Between her line of partyware at Walmart, cast iron skillet collaboration with Lodge, Duncan Hines baking mixes, and new frozen foods that include Homestyle Macaroni and Cheese and two no-bake desserts, if you’re a big Dolly fan, at least one of her products is probably in your kitchen cabinets somewhere.

Make some room in those cabinets for Dollar General’s new home decor, kitchen, and tableware items with a spark of Dolly’s style.

“Our shared humble beginnings make this a special program for Dollar General. We are thrilled to bring this exclusive collection, curated by one of the most iconic stars in country music, to DG customers,” said Emily Taylor, executive vice president and chief merchandising officer at Dollar General.

Starting mid-month, Dollar General will carry approximately 50 affordably-priced items ($1 to $10) from the Dolly Kitchen Collection. Most of the Dolly-inspired kitchenware will be $5 or less, and the collection is expected to be in about 20,000 Dollar General locations nationwide.

What’s in the Dolly Parton Kitchen and Housewares Collection?

Dollar General hasn’t yet released a list of the products, and they aren’t on its website. However, from the photos, the items appear to be decorated with Dolly’s sayings and her signature butterflies. The pieces, appropriately, have a bit of a country vibe.

In addition to the “Cup of Ambition” coffee mug, there’s another with one of Dolly’s quotes, “If you see someone without a smile, give ’em yours!” There are also biscuit cutters, measuring cups, a rolling pin, a utensil holder, a spoon rest that looks like it’s shaped like a guitar, a tea towel, a cookbook holder, a flour canister, and a pie plate with the saying “The Most Powerful Thing in the World is Love,” among other kitchen tools and decor.

I don’t know about you, but even though I already have a kitchen cabinet full of coffee mugs, you can be sure that I’ll be heading to Dollar General ASAP to grab a new one for my morning “Cup(s) of Ambition”—and I’ll probably come home with a guitar-shaped spoon rest, too.
