The Prime Day air fryer deals are almost upon us, which means we’re in the thick of summer heat. And we actually think summer may be the best time to take advantage of an air fryer. When it’s too muggy outside to grill and too stuffy inside to crank up the oven, a countertop air fryer might be your best bet for satisfyingly crunchy summer meals.

When is Prime Day?
Amazon Prime Day is the online retailer’s mid-summer sale. Now in its ninth year, Prime Day is happening from July 16 to 17. What do air fryers do?
Simply put, air fryers are small, countertop convection ovens. (Depending on your home appliances, your regular range may have a full-sized convection oven. More on how to fully utilize that feature here.) But the branding of this constantly-circulating hot air as the “air fry” method of cooking has brought this gadget’s possibilities to a bunch of convenient, smaller-scale uses. From reheating pizza to making perfectly cooked and crispy frozen apps and meals like french fries and fried chicken, it can tackle many of the jobs you might relegate to the microwave and toaster oven, while also letting you bake, broil, and even cook with a rotisserie. Then there’s the fact that the air fryers continuously circulating air makes it ideal for dehydrating. If that’s not multi-use enough for you, brand like Instant Pot even make multicookers that have an air frying function, meaning you can save some counter space with one combo unit.
What kind of air fryer should I buy?
Because there are just so many air fryers on the market these days, it can be tricky to figure out which one will work for you. The first question is whether you want a basket-style air fryer (great for crisping up frozen food) or an oven style (more versatile and better for baking tasks). Do you prefer a basic interface or tons of presets? What kind of quart capacity do you need? We recommend 5-6 quarts for a family of four, though that could be bulky for a small kitchen.
