Just four simple ingredients are needed to make Fried Goat Cheese. Excellent for pairing with salad recipes or a delicious appetizer during the holiday season. The nutty flavor paired with the crunchy texture creates the best salad topper or perfect appetizer.
Once I made these fried goat cheese slices for the first time, I knew I was hooked. That tangy goat cheese paired with the golden brown coating not only tastes amazing but is such an easy recipe to make.
Most times, I’ll serve this on a simple strawberry and spinach salad, but it would also be delicious to have these fried slices of goat cheese on a serving platter with some hot honey drizzled on top.
The fun part about making this fried goat cheese recipe is that you can cook this in small batches, or make enough fried cheese to feed the family. Each breaded goat cheese slice is rich in flavor, so I like to just eat a couple of slices to savor the taste.

Ingredients
- Goat cheese – Buy your favorite brand from the local grocery store.
- Egg white or a beaten egg – Either option will work as the egg is used to hold the crushed pecans to the surface of the cheese.
- Pecans – Use a food processor to crunch the pecans or buy them already to save time.
- Salted butter – For flavor.

How to Make Fried Goat Cheese
Step One: Cut the goat cheese log into slices. Coat each slice with egg and the crushed pecans.
Step Two: Melt the butter over medium heat in a pan on the stovetop. Don’t let it brown.
Step Three: Fry the goat cheese slices in the butter for 3-4 minutes per side. The butter will brown as they cooks for amazing flavor.
Step Four: The nuts should brown, and the cheese should be warmed all the way through. Serve asap.
Top Tip💡
These would be excellent on a charcuterie board with a drizzle of honey on top! It gives each person the perfect bite, and they’ll love the way that the warm goat cheese just melts in their mouth.
Substitutions
- Regular bread crumbs – You can also get crispy textures using bread crumbs or panko bread crumbs with the egg mixture.
- Olive oil – If you don’t want to fry the goat cheese medallions in butter, you can use olive oil or vegetable oil as well.
Variations
- Make fried goat cheese balls – Little balls of fried goat cheese are fun to make, too! Just have a slotted spoon so that you can get them out of the oil.
- Red pepper flake – You can add some spice to your goat cheese rounds by adding pepper flakes to the pecans.
- Fresh herbs – Finely chop your favorite herb and add it to the chopped nuts.

Equipment
I like to set up an assembly line and have a separate bowl for the egg mixture and pecans. It’s a simple dredging station process that makes sure that I get the fresh goat cheese coated and in a small sauce pan to fry.
Mixing bowls and a frying pan are used to make this simple recipe.
Storage
Easy appetizers like this are best served fresh. You can store leftovers by adding them to an airtight container and keeping them in the fridge. When you are ready to eat, reheat in the microwave for a few short bursts of seconds. The crispy coating likely won’t be as crisp, but the flavor will still be there.
Common Questions
You can! You’ll likely want to try and cook them in the air fryer on medium-high heat for about 6-7 minutes. I do prefer pan-fried goat cheese because I can keep an eye on it while it is cooking, just to be sure that I don’t overcook or burn these little yummy bites.
I like to make a fried goat cheese salad and have the bits of goodness right on top. You can also add a few to a plate with any main dish for an easy way to add a different flavor and texture.
Thick slices of the fried cheese are also super delicious with crackers for a fancy and easy appetizer!
