If there’s one thing I’ll never do, it’s turn down a new Lay’s potato chip flavor. Sure, the brand has been known to have some interesting flavors—like the Rooty Tooty Fresh ‘N Fruity pancake-flavored chips in partnership with IHOP—but after trying so many delicious varieties from Frito-Lay, I’ll always trust them.
With so many great potato chips out there, it can be hard to choose just one as your favorite. Luckily, no one will ever ask you to do that, but it can be fun to keep a list of your top few faves and see how yours differs from that of your friends and family.
Earlier this year, Lay’s Flavor That Hits Home campaign proved that everybody—and every U.S. region—has a different beloved flavor. The launch featured three returning fan-favorite chips sold in specific regions of the country. The South and Midwest had Fried Pickles with Ranch, the East Coast got BLT Sandwich, and the West Coast received Crispy Taco.
While you could order all the flavors from Snacks.com if you didn’t live in a certain region, the chips weren’t available at any retailer nationwide—until now.
Lay’s Crispy Taco Potato Chips Are Back
As part of Lay’s partnership with soccer legend Lionel Messi, the brand is bringing its Crispy Taco flavor nationwide, and I couldn’t be more excited.
Lay’s Crispy Taco joined the lineup in 2017 after it won Lay’s “Do Us a Flavor” competition. The limited-edition chip features everything you know and love about a hard-shell taco, all in a crispy potato chip. It has hints of ground beef, sour cream, lettuce, cheese, and tomato in every bite.
In celebration of the Leagues Cup, Lay’s is launching its Crispy Taco chips in a new, limited-edition bag featuring Messi’s face. The chips will be a Kroger exclusive, sold at stores nationwide while supplies last. That also means you can find them at Kroger-owned stores, like Ralphs, Dillons, Fred Meyer, Harris Teeter, and more.
What Do Crispy Taco Lay’s Taste Like?
I first tried these chips when they resurfaced in March, and I haven’t stopped thinking about them since. They don’t just taste like taco-seasoned potato chips but have layers of flavor. In every bite, you get the flavors of fresh lettuce, seasoned meat, sharp cheese, creamy sour cream, and acidic tomato. It’s quite bonkers that Lay’s can give that much dimension to a single chip.
I’m not the only one who raves about them.
“One chip and it went right into my top 5 all-time chips. Loved them,” wrote one Reddit user.
“These are amazing. All the layers are there. I have never experienced anything like it,” wrote a Walmart customer.
Unfortunately, the Crispy Taco potato chips will likely be tricky to find again, but if you can get your hands on them, you should stock up. Mark my words: If you buy only one bag, they’ll be gone before you return for the second.
