These Are the 5 Frozen Foods Our Editors Never Leave Costco Without

Costco is a teeming warehouse with hundreds of products—but with people down every aisle and free samples around every corner, it can be easy to get distracted and overlook some great items. Luckily, that’s where the EatingWell editors, who are also frequent Costco shoppers ourselves, come in. Here are our five tried-and-true, must-have items from the frozen section, so you can keep an eye out for these products the next time you’re in the freezer aisle. (And if you need more expert Costco picks, check out our editors’ favorite snacks.)

Bibigo Vegetable Spring Rolls

If you need a quick appetizer or snack at the ready, consider keeping a box of Bibigo’s Vegetable Spring Rolls in your freezer. Carolyn Malcoun, EatingWell’s associate editorial director, first bought these spring rolls while they were on sale a few years ago. Fast-forward to today, and she always has a box on hand. Each spring roll features a mix of jicama, edamame, carrot, cabbage and sweet potato. You can make these rolls in the air fryer or oven—either way, the spring roll shells get delightfully crispy. The rolls come with a soy-ginger sauce for dipping. These savory spring rolls will please vegetarians and meat-eaters alike.

Bibigo Steamed Dumplings

While you’re picking up Malcoun’s favorite spring rolls, check out another Bibigo product. The brand’s steamed dumplings are my No. 1 frozen food to buy at Costco. Each tray includes six dumplings, which feature a filling made from chicken, cabbage and mushrooms. All I have to do is pop the tray in the microwave to steam the dumplings and, two minutes later, I have a satisfying lunch. I like to keep a box in my freezer for days when I’m too tired to cook or need a quick bite between meetings.

Kirkland Signature Three Berry Blend

Kirkland Signature’s Three Berry Blend is such a good deal at Costco that multiple EatingWell editors have called it a breakfast staple. “It’s so good and the 4-pound bag lasts me at least a month of breakfasts,” says Jessica Ball, M.S., RD, EatingWell’s nutrition editor. “I use it almost every day in either smoothies or overnight oats.” Try the mix of raspberries, blackberries and blueberries in our Triple-Berry Blended Oats.

If smoothies are more your thing, EatingWell’s News, Trending & Updates Editor Abigail Abesamis Demarest has just the recipe. She likes to use the berries in her morning smoothies, along with cacao powder, spinach, almond butter and unsweetened vanilla almond milk. Demarest says, “It’s my go-to breakfast during the sweltering summer months here in Florida.”

Kirkland Signature Frozen Fish

Another staple in Malcoun’s freezer is fish. “Having frozen fish on hand has helped my family eat more fish, since I’m not as concerned about buying it fresh and needing to cook it within a day or two,” explains Malcoun. She likes to keep two varieties stocked, Kirkland Signature’s Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon and Kirkland Signature’s Wild Caught Atlantic Cod Loins. Both varieties come individually portioned, which Malcoun says is great so she can “grab and thaw just what I need for dinner.” Fish is a super-versatile protein, so your dinner options are endless. Use salmon in our Sheet-Pan Roasted Salmon & Vegetables or Salmon with Smoky Mayo & Quinoa Pilaf. Or use cod in our Lemon-Garlic Baked Cod or Crispy Cod with Charred Snow Peas & Creamy Herb Sauce.

Kirkland Signature Stir-Fry Vegetable Blend

If you need a vegetable side to go along with your fish, Demarest recommends Kirkland Signature’s Stir-Fry Vegetable Blend. It contains a medley of broccoli, sugar snap peas, green beans, yellow and orange carrots, mushrooms, red bell peppers, water chestnuts and onions. Demarest keeps this blend in her freezer so she “always has a vegetable side,” to go along with her meal. You could also make the vegetables the star of your plate and pair them with noodles or a rice bowl like Demarest does. For a sauce, she likes to add soy sauce and sesame oil to the vegetables, or you could try our Honey-Soy-Ginger Glaze.
