In the September magazine issue of Bon Appétit, we’re exploring relationships—communes, romance, chosen kin. Because ultimately, food creates connection.
What do you make for a first date, a milestone celebration, or the morning after? Our test kitchen’s got you covered with a bundle of special-moment recipes, like this Date-Me Chicken that just needs a crusty hunk of bread to drag through the sauce. Restaurateur couple Silver and Cherry Iocovozzi, the duo behind Neng Jr.’s in Asheville, North Carolina invited us in to toast to their second wedding anniversary with a table set not for two, but for 14 of their chosen family. Silver shared an intimate menu for hosting: a black garlic twist on Caesar salad, broccoli florets doused in a funky dill sauce, peel ’n’ eat Old Bay–scented shrimp, and tomato spaghetti with a trio of smoked flavors: bacon, paprika, and chipotles in adobo.
And to end on a sweet note, senior test kitchen editor Shilpa Uskokovic shared a romantic dessert that’s part silky flan, part fudgy chocolate cake. Because why settle for one dessert when you can have two?
