My Grandpa’s Easy 4-Ingredient Salsa Recipe Is a Family Favorite

Food, like I’m sure it is with most people, is extremely important in my family. Being of Mexican descent, it’s a way to feel closer to our roots and express our heritage. Some of my favorite memories are watching my Nana cook in the kitchen, making menudo during the holidays or bringing home barbacoa on Sundays for the family to enjoy.

But as I grew older and slowly moved away from home, cooking became a way to help deal with my homesickness. After graduating from college, I knew I wanted to jot down all my family recipes so I’d be able to go back to them again and again.

This particular recipe hails from my dad’s side of the family and comes from my Grandpa Soliz!

What Sets My Grandpa’s Recipe Apart From The Rest

When you think of salsa recipes, you might think of the daunting tasks of gathering your fresh ingredients and navigating preparation. Take our most popular salsa recipe—while it calls for only seven ingredients, three of them are fresh which might require a trip to the store. That’s why I’m so grateful for my Grandpa’s recipe. Not only is it incredibly simple with just four ingredients, but it only requires one fresh ingredient. Thank you, Grandpa!

How to Make Grandpa Soliz’s 4-Ingredient Salsa

Ingredients

  • 1 (14.5-ounce) can of stewed tomatoes
  • 4 to 6 jalapeños
  • Onion powder (to taste)
  • Garlic salt (to taste)

Recipe Tip

If you want to add extra flavor into the salsa, I recommend roasting the jalapeños before throwing them into the blender.

Instructions

  1. Open the can of tomatoes. Dump into blender
  2. Cut off the stems of the jalapeños. Throw into blender.
  3. Add in onion powder and garlic salt to taste. I recommend starting off small and building on the spices—you can always add, but you can’t take away.
  4. Blend.
  5. Pour into a bowl and enjoy!
