Popeyes Has a New Menu Item Just in Time for Football Season

Are you ready for some football? Does it matter if you are? Drive by any high school or college football stadium, and you’ll see the players practicing for the fall season. The NFL players are practicing, too, and the pro season officially kicks off in two weeks. Where has summer gone?

Halloween candy is already on store shelves. Pumpkin spice is infiltrating everything from coffee shops to Pop-Tarts. And, the annual wing wars have begun. Buffalo Wild Wings has already released its fall menu with a new Buffalo bacon sauce to entice tailgaters and football fans watching from home. Today, Popeyes announced that it has a new wing flavor, and we imagine these are the first two of many wing announcements we’ll have in the upcoming weeks.

Popeyes’ New Sweet ‘N Smokey Chipotle Wings

Popeyes has five wing flavors on its menu: Sweet ‘N Spicy, Honey BBQ, Roasted Garlic Parmesan, Signature Hot, and Honey Lemon Pepper. Now, it’s adding a Sweet ‘N Smokey Chipotle flavor to the mix.

The new variation—available at participating Popeyes starting Aug. 26—coats chicken wings in Chipotle chiles to add some smokiness and spiciness. A touch of honey is added for a little sweetness to balance out the heat.

Popeyes

From Aug. 26 through Sept. 8, Popeyes Rewards members can get a free boneless or bone-in six-piece wing order in their choice of flavor with a $10 minimum purchase if they order through Popeyes’ website or app. The deal is good for one offer per order.

And yes, the offer is good on Thursday, Sept. 5, for the first NFL game of the season when the Eagles play the Packers and on Sunday, Sept. 8, when the Browns play the Cowboys.
