The Bonne Maman Advent Calendar Is Here, and We Tried It Out

If there’s one thing I can get behind, it’s the practice of opening a little treat every day. And when it’s a surprise, that’s even better. This is the key reason an advent calendar excites me: pening a door to a little gift can turn any day into a better one, especially  when the treat is a mini Bonne Maman jar filled with a sweet spread. 

The French company is known for its fruit preserves, honey, and spreads like the newly released chocolate peanut butter one. With the popular Bonne Maman advent calendar, you can sample delicious classic flavors and some flavors that are exlusive to calendar ownersy. The best news of all, though? The 2024 calendar is officially here, and I got to try every single flavor for the second year in a row. Without spoiling everything, I’d say it’s well worth snapping up now, because it’s bound to sell out.

Bonne Maman 2024 Limited Edition Advent Calendar 

The Bonne Maman calendar has been an annual tradition of mine for several years now. At first. I really only after the cute mini jars, which are 1 ounce  (or around 2 tablespoons) each. Now I keep going back for all of the fun flavors. The 2024 calendar features 24 spreads and no honey jar, a deviationt from previous years, but you’ll still find classics like the quince spread. Plus, you’ll receive seasonal favorites that you can only score in the calendar. 

The brand sent the calendar early for me to try every flavor, so I opened each door in one sitting. The box itself is similar to last year’s whimsical winter scene, though this time it’s adorned with a snow-capped train, decorated evergreen trees and kids putting finishing touches on a perfect snowman. On the inside, you’ll find the jars topped with Bonne Maman’s signature checkered top splashed in red, pink or blue. Each seal is decorated with the ingredients in the jam, which I always find to be a lovely design touch. 

Some of the flavors are repeats from previous years—they’re perennial favorites for a reason! But, some of the more unique flavors from the bunch  stood out to me, including the wild blueberry and maple spread, the carmel coffee spread, the fig cinnamon spread, the rhubarb spice spread, the lemon elderflower spread and the fig cinnamon spread. 

My absolute favorite of the bunch is the perfectly tart and earth wild blueberry and maple syrup flavor I find that it’s one of the more balanced and nuanced spreads from the brand, which tends to lean pretty sweet. In my personal ranking, the caramel and coffee spread is a close second, offering a fresh-brewed caramelized coffee taste and a rich mouthfeel. If I could, I would buy big jars of both of these on repeat. Each spread is a unique experience, with all different flavor notes, textures and sweetness. 

Perhaps the best part about these spreads is how versatile they are.  Yes, they’re always going to be perfect on toast or biscuits. but I also find myself grabbing them to round out dressings and marinades, flavor mocktails and add depth to savory sandwiches and yogurt. They’re also the ideal size for eating right out of the jar with a spoon. The jars have their own specific expiration dates, but in general, the brand recommends consuming these by June 2025. In years past, they’ve lasted very well in my pantry, and I enjoy taking my time with them throughout the seasons.
