From Kit Kat’s cinnamon-flavored Ghost Toast wafers to Reese’s Werewolf Tracks and Sonic’s Witch’s Brew slush, it’s no secret that brands are already leaning into all things Halloween. But one thing that doesn’t look like it’s coming back is the fan-favorite Burger King Ghost Pepper Whopper. Luckily, another fast food spot is stepping in and fans are hoping they’ll find their ghost pepper fix at the drive-thru down the street—just in time for the spooky season.
Carl’s Jr. Launches the Ghost Burger
If you’re always chasing the next viral spicy food item, Carl’s Jr. has the burger for you. The fast food chain has added the Ghost Burger to its menu, a 1/3-pound Angus beef patty topped with ghost pepper cheese, applewood-smoked bacon, and “soul-scorching” sauce. This hauntingly spicy item is joined by a double cheeseburger option and a breakfast edition called the Ghost Breakfast Burger, which has eggs, bacon, hash browns, ghost pepper cheese, and spicy sauce.
Available now through Nov. 6, the burgers can be ordered on their own or as combo meals.
If you couldn’t already tell from the name, the Ghost lineup is a play on the dating conundrum of “getting ghosted,” a phenomenon that occurs when someone abruptly stops responding to your calls and texts.
“Nothing burns more than getting ignored or left on read, except for the mouth-numbing heat of our new burger, The Ghost,” said Carl’s Jr. vice president of marketing, Anthony Nguyen. “At Carl’s Jr., we see you, we hear you, and we want to give you burgers … to take your mind off of the burn from ghosting.”
Only time and taste tests will tell if this new Ghost Burger will replace Burger King’s popular Ghost Pepper Whopper. Like with all viral food trends, we believe social media will let us know whether or not the Carl’s Jr. version stacks up.
