Ingredients
- Cottage cheese – Use your favorite brand of cottage cheese for this simple dip. I prefer to use full-fat cottage cheese but low-fat cottage cheese should work.
- Cheddar cheese – You can use pre-shredded cheese or shred your own.
- Diced tomatoes – Drain the juice well before adding or the dip will be thin.
- Green chiles – Drain the juice before adding.
- Onion powder – This adds so much flavor.
- Garlic powder – Great for enhancing the taste of this cheesy dip.
- Salt – For flavor. You can season to taste.
- Black pepper – Add as much or as little as you like.

Adding high-protein cottage cheese is a simple way to create a tasty dip. Make sure that you pair the blended cottage cheese with sliced carrots, or celery sticks for added nutritional value.
Substitutions
- Shredded cheese – Opt for other fun flavors like Mexican blend cheese, Pepper Jack cheese, or Monterey Jack cheese.
Variations
- Add spice – This has a mild flavor as written, for a kick add some hot sauce. You can also season with taco seasoning.

Equipment
To make this healthy dip, you need a saucepan, dip bowl, and (optional) immersion blender.
Storage
This dip is a great addition to make and eat right away. If you need to store it for later, let it cool, add it to an airtight container, and keep it in the fridge. Make sure that you reheat fully before serving.
As the dip cools, it will separate some, so reheat and stir.
I don’t recommend freezing this dip recipe. If you do try and freeze this cottage cheese dip, it will likely cause everything to separate from one another and have a grainy and different texture once it is thawed.
If you find that you have leftover queso, use it as toppings for tacos, burritos, and more. There are plenty of ways that you can use this flavor to enhance other dishes.
Common Questions
That’s the best part! You can serve with mini bell peppers, raw veggies, or even pair this high protein cottage cheese queso with tortilla chips and crackers. It’s also a great addition to burrito bowls and tacos as well. The options are endless on how you can use this dip!
Nope, for the consistency needed to make this dip, you need to use shredded cheese. You can shred the block of cheese by hand and add it that way!
There’s really no need to add cream cheese to this dip recipe because that is what the blend of cottage cheese is there for. Once the cottage cheese is mixed, it provides a nice and creamy texture to the dish – with the added protein!
