My Mom Makes a Perfect Roast with Crock-Pot’s Slow Cooker

Like many families, mine has favorite recipes. Most of them are thanks to my mom being the best cook I know. She has a roster of delicious meals that I constantly request when I visit home. But her slow cooker pot roast might be the best one, and she’s used the same appliance to make it for the past five years.

My mom’s secret to the perfect roast is the Crock-Pot Slow Cooker she bought at Walmart. The iconic kitchen brand is a staple in her house, and she’s used the same model slow cooker since I was little, having to replace it only a few times. I remember waking up to the smell of pot roast in the middle of the night when she’d cook it as we slept and made sure it was ready for Sunday’s post-church lunch. Now, I have the exact one in the hopes of replicating her flavorful creation.

The Crock-Pot slow cooker is one of my mom’s favorite appliances because of how simple it is to use. There are only three pre-set cooking options: warm, low, and high. According to her, that’s all you need. She uses the warm setting to keep dips, stews, and other big meals from getting cold as our family or guests serve themselves (and for when someone wants a second helping, which almost always happens). She reserves the high option for dinners that need to cook faster without disrupting the flavors, like soups and chilis.

The low setting, though, is how she makes her famous roast. In fact, I’ve heard my mom say the words “cook low and slow” so many times in my life, I’ve lost count. That’s exactly what she does. She tenderizes her meat, tosses it into the pot with seasonings, yukon gold potatoes, carrots, and onions, and lets it cook overnight for at least eight hours.

In addition to the simple and easy-to-use presets, she loves its size. There are seven people in my immediate family, and the Crock-Pot just happens to serve up to eight people with its 7-quart capacity. She can fit a 3 pound roast inside, enough rotel dip that we’ll be eating it for days, and plenty of soup for the whole family.

When we’re done eating, she says the cleanup is easy. The stoneware basin easily lifts out of the base and can be washed in the sink or a dishwasher. Food rarely gets stuck, and when it does, it comes up easily with dish soap and water. Plus, because it’s made of stoneware, it doesn’t absorb smells or flavors, so once it’s clean, it’s ready to use again immediately.

My mom is far from the only fan, though. Walmart shoppers also love Crock-Pot’s slow cooker. In fact, it has over 5,800 five-star ratings, with many people praising the same things my mom loves about it. They say it always cooks evenly, there’s no scorching left behind, and even those who admit that they’re not good at cooking love the meals they’ve made.

If you want to cook more in the New Year but want an easy way to do it, the Crock-Pot 7-Quart Slow Cooker is exactly what your kitchen needs. Keep scrolling to see even more appliances that’ll make life easier.
