Top Tip💡

If you don’t have a food processor, you can use a high speed blender as a great option. Either will give you the best results.

Substitutions

  • Cottage cheese – As I mentioned earlier, you can use all kinds of cottage cheese for this recipe. Low-fat cottage cheese, fat free cottage cheese – all work as good simple ingredients for this dish.

Variations

  • Add maple syrup – For a pop of sweetness, you can add maple syrup or honey.
  • Vanilla extract – If you love a hint of vanilla, adding pure vanilla extract works well. You can also add peppermint extract for a fun flavor. Extracts are a game changer in terms of adding a flavor difference.
  • Protein powder – You can easily add chocolate protein powder to turn this into even more of a chocolate protein mousse recipe! The only thing you’ll need to pay attention to is to balance that it’s not too thick so you might have to add more heavy cream to offset.

Equipment

To make this delicious dessert, you’ll need a food processor or high-speed blender. You’ll also want to have a large mixing bowl and a spatula to scrape down the sides of the blender or food processor.

Storage

Once you make this delicious sweet treat, you can enjoy it right away or put it in an airtight container in the fridge. If you do store it, eat it within three days for the best results. You’ll likely need to give it a stir again before eating.

I don’t recommend freezing this recipe because it will change the texture of the mousse.

Common Questions

Does this recipe have a pudding consistency?

It does, but it’s a little bit thicker as well. It’s a creamier mousse because of the cottage cheese and heavy cream, but is also sort of like a thicker pudding. This is why some people will refer to this as cottage cheese chocolate pudding as well.

Can I add different toppings to this cottage cheese recipe?

Absolutely! You can add coconut shreds, fresh raspberries, dark chocolate chips, or any other favorite toppings that you want.

Will this recipe help with my protein goals?

If you’re a chocolate lover looking for a way to benefit from your sweet tooth and achieve muscle growth, eating a high protein dessert like this can help! It does give you extra protein to enjoy during the day while also keeping the dish low in carbs and sugars.
