The McDonald’s Seasonal Item Fans Wait All Year for Is Finally Back

There are just 30 days until Halloween. Anyone who plans to trick or treat this year is now in full planning mode, deciding if they’ll be a ghoul or a goblin, a princess or a pirate, Taylor Swift or Travis Kelsey.

Costumes aren’t the only important thing to Halloween-loving kids. What they’ll use to collect their Reese’s Werewolf Tracks, Hershey’s Harry Potter Kisses, or the all-new Twizzlers Ghosts from their neighbors is equally as important. And for many kids, only a McDonald’s Boo Bucket will do. Fortunately for those kids, McD’s has announced that those spooky Happy Meal buckets are returning this year.

How to Get This Year’s Boo Bucket at McDonald’s

Boo Buckets—the plastic buckets that replace Happy Meal boxes—officially go on sale on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at participating McDonald’s, while supplies last. The buckets come with every version of the Happy Meal: the hamburger (or cheeseburger), 4-piece McNugget, or 6-piece McNugget. Each meal also comes with fries, apple slices, and a drink.

This year’s colors are blue, orange, white, or green, and the plastic buckets with handles are decorated with very non-scary, furry-looking, monster-ish faces. Plus, they come with stickers so kids can add more personality to their buckets.

While we’re all thrilled to see Boo Buckets back once again, the reviews on the new design are mixed (and that’s putting it kindly). When McDonald’s posted the new pails on social media, the comments started rolling in: “Don’t like [these] designs, you should’ve stuck with the old ones,” said one, and, “Please stop changing the look and bring back the old school ones in the ’90s,” exclaimed another. Seems like many agree that the lids should make a comeback as well. “We just wanted lids back with the old design. This isn’t it!”

At least some fans that have “BEEN WAITING” are looking at the positive and are thankful they’re finally here, just in time.

In either case, these holiday kid favorites tend to sell out before Halloween, so if you or your little monster wants a monster-themed Boo Bucket, don’t wait until the last minute!
