Lay’s Is Bringing Back 5 Fan-Favorite Flavors

Lay’s has released dozens upon dozens of fan-favorite flavors over the years. From its classics, like Sour Cream & Cheddar and Salt & Vinegar, to its limited-time offerings, like the Sweet & Spicy Honey and potato chips that taste like other FritoLay favorites, there’s never a shortage of tasty snacks to stock your pantry with.

What you might not realize, however, is that some of your favorite Lay’s flavors didn’t come from the minds behind the OG potato chip. Instead, many of the most beloved chips were created by fans themselves.

In 2012, Lay’s launched its “Lay’s Do Us A Flavor” contest to give customers a chance to create new flavors they wanted to see on shelves. Through four contests, we snackers have scored 14 creations—like Cheesy Garlic Bread, Wasabi Ginger, and Crispy Taco.

Now, after a seven-year hiatus, Lay’s is bringing back its iconic competition so anyone who has ever asked, “Why didn’t I come up with this?” has the chance to again.

Lay’s Bringing Back 5 ‘Do Us A Flavor’ Chips

In honor of the Lay’s Do Us A Flavor contest returning, Lay’s is bringing back five of its fan-favorite winning flavors for a limited time. You’ll see Chicken & Waffles, Cheesy Garlic Bread, Southern Biscuits & Gravy, Wavy Fried Green Tomato, and Crispy Taco back from the Flavor Vault.

Lay’s Chicken & Waffles, which is a sweet and savory chip modeled after the favorite brunch combination, and Lay’s Cheesy Garlic Bread, a cheesy, garlicky chip, both come from the inaugural 2012 contest where Cheesy Garlic Bread won. Southern Biscuits & Gravy was the 2015 winner, inspired by a family breakfast recipe. Wavy Fried Green Tomato, a crunchy take on the Southern side, and Crispy Taco, a chip that combines seasoned ground beef, sour cream, lettuce, cheese, and tomato flavors, were part of the 2017 contest, which Crispy Taco took the gold in.

Five returning fan-favorite flavors might sound too good to be true, and it kind of is. The catch for the Lay’s Flavor Vault chips is that they’ll only be available via a social media giveaway. You can enter the giveaway on Lay’s social media for a limited time.

In addition to the giveaway, you can also enter your potato chip flavor idea starting Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. EST through Feb. 21, 2025, at DoUsAFlavor.com. You can submit up to 10 flavor ideas every day. Then, a judging panel will narrow down the ideas to three finalist flavors and bring them to market in April 2025. After customers vote on their favorite flavor, the winner will be announced later in 2025. The winner will receive $1 million, and the runners-up will each get $50,000.
