Pillsbury products are a childhood staple. From the fluffy crescent rolls we love to use in holiday appetizers to the flaky biscuits on top of Mom’s Fabulous Chicken Pot Pie, the brand knows how to create mealtime magic. In addition to savory sides, Pillsbury has brought us a solid lineup of cookies and cake mixes, plus convenient breakfast products like cinnamon rolls and Toaster Strudels to make our mornings extra sweet.
Now, the brand is launching a new line of frozen products inspired by everyone’s favorite breakfast—donuts.
Pillsbury Launches Toaster Donut Pastries
Next time you head to the freezer aisle you might see a new Pillsbury product on shelves. The Minneapolis-based company just launched Toaster Donut Pastries—the perfect mash-up between a donut and Toaster Strudel. The pastries are inspired by popular donut flavors and have a soft, pillowy base which fans can load up with icing.
Pillsbury’s Toaster Donut Pastries are available in three flavors: Frosted, Rainbow Sprinkle, and Boston Cream. Frosted Donut features a white glaze, while the Rainbow Sprinkle has a vibrant pink hue with multi-colored jimmies. Fans seem to be most excited, however, for the return of the Boston Cream flavor. The dessert-inspired Toaster Strudel was a beloved fan favorite but was suddenly discontinued in 2020. Many are ecstatic to see the nostalgic flavor back in stores, albeit in a slightly different form.
“The Boston cream [toaster strudel] was such a big part of my childhood!!! Yassss” wrote one commenter on an Instagram post sharing the news. “BOSTON CREAM TOASTER STRUDEL, MY BELOVED,” added another excited fan.
One major difference between Toaster Donuts and Toaster Strudel is the filling. While the Boston Cream pie variety is filled, the other two flavors don’t appear to be. “Just the Boston cream one is filled. I got the rainbow sprinkles and there is no filling. It’s very good though. The pastry part is the same texture as a donut” shared one Instagrammer. All things considered, this sounds like Pillsbury found a way to make a Long John-style toaster pastry, and we’re here for it.
Pillsbury’s Toaster Donut Pastries were originally spotted on shelves in Kroger but we don’t know if they will soon be rolled out to more retailers nationwide. So, be sure to check the freezer aisle on your next grocery run. And if you didn’t already know–just like with Pop-Tarts—these come out better in the air fryer. The instructions are on the box, and trust us, they’re perfect every time.
