If you’re traveling by plane this holiday season, we have some amazing news for you—especially if you’re a dairy-free coffee drinker.
This month, American Airlines has started offering a dairy-free milk alternative for your coffee, whether you’re ordering coffee on flight or bringing your own. That’s right: they just added oat milk creamer to the drink cart–it’s not too good to be true. Their new oat milk creamer comes in a convenient stick to store for later or to add to your caffeinated beverage ASAP. This gives an option for plant-based, dairy-free, nut-free and/or oat-milk-loving customers.
Millions of Americans are impacted by lactose intolerance, and many others follow plant-based diets and lifestyles that may limit their drink options. And choices like almond milk can be problematic for those with nut allergies, so the fact that American Airlines opted for oat milk creamer as a dairy-free option shows consideration. From this announcement to Starbucks’ recent menu change to drop prices on plant-based milk, these shifts at no extra cost to the customer is something we can get behind.
We’re most excited about the new creamer, but for those looking for more allergen-friendly food options, American Airlines has upgraded your choices. Starting this month, the airline is offering new vegan, kosher, lactose-free and gluten-free meals, among other dietary restrictions. These new meal options have been curated to prioritize seasonal ingredients and flavors.
While these meals are only available on select flights for premium cabin members to order when on board, flyers in all cabins can pre-order specialty meals 24 hours prior to flight time online or through the app. We love that the food offered is reviewed by a registered dietitian for expert-backed nutrition offerings as it aligns with EatingWell’s own standards.
